AI Checkup is an innovative medical consultation application equipped with an AI agent, developed to address the critical healthcare access issue faced by the world's impoverished population.
According to World Bank data, approximately 9.2% of the global population (about 700 million people) live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 per day (as of 2023). A significant problem for these impoverished individuals is their inability to access necessary medical services due not only to economic reasons but also geographical and social barriers.
By leveraging smartphones and AI technology, AI Checkup aims to eliminate these barriers and provide accessible, reliable healthcare to anyone, anywhere in the world.
This app offers a comprehensive range of features including multilingual AI-powered consultations, evidence-based health advice, information on supplements and pharmaceuticals, referrals to medical institutions when necessary, and personal health record management, supporting users in managing their health.
AI Checkup aims to contribute to improving the health of the world's impoverished population, reducing healthcare disparities, achieving SDG goal 3, "Good Health and Well-being," and realizing a sustainable society.
Multilingual AI-powered consultations: Users can input their symptoms via chat in major languages (English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese, etc., with plans to expand based on local needs). State-of-the-art Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning algorithms analyze the input information to infer relevant health problems and potential diseases. Consultation content is supervised by an international team of medical professionals, taking into account WHO guidelines, major diseases in each region, and health issues specific to the impoverished population.
Evidence-based health advice and information: Based on the consultation results, the app provides suggestions for lifestyle improvements, self-care methods if necessary, and information on recommended over-the-counter medications, based on reliable sources such as WHO and guidelines from national health organizations.
Supplement and pharmaceutical information and local price comparison: By linking with databases of approved supplements and OTC pharmaceuticals in each country, the app provides appropriate product information based on the user's symptoms and location. Where possible, local selling price information is also provided to support users in making decisions based on their financial situation.
Referral to medical institutions: If the AI determines that the symptoms are serious or require urgent attention, it promptly directs the user to the nearest medical institution (public hospital, NGO-run clinic, etc.) based on their current location. It aims to collaborate with medical information databases in each country.
Health record management: The app securely stores the user's consultation results, provided health advice, medication information, and medical history. Users can continuously monitor and manage their health status. Data encryption and anonymization are strictly enforced to protect privacy.
Offline functionality: To ensure usability in areas with unstable internet connections, major functions can be used offline. Regular data synchronization updates the latest information when online.
Global perspective and localization: While pursuing the grand vision of improving healthcare access for the world's impoverished population, the app will be localized to suit the languages, cultures, medical systems, and lifestyles of each region.
Reliable partnerships: Through collaborations with WHO, Médecins Sans Frontières, and national health ministries and major healthcare-related NGOs, the app ensures the provision of reliable information and reaches a wide range of users.
State-of-the-art AI technology and data utilization: A team of machine learning and natural language processing experts develops and improves high-precision consultation algorithms. Data collected from users (anonymized and encrypted) is analyzed to improve AI accuracy, service, and identify public health issues in each region.
Scalability and sustainability: By leveraging cloud-based platforms and open-source technologies, the app enables low-cost service provision and rapid global deployment.
To ensure sustainable operation and global service provision, AI Checkup is considering the following revenue models while prioritizing the prevention of hindering healthcare access for the impoverished population.
Donation model: Soliciting donations from foundations, international organizations, corporations, and individuals.
Grant model: Applying for grants from government agencies, international organizations, and research institutions in each country.
Corporate partnerships: Collaborating with pharmaceutical companies and health-related companies on research and development and promotion (advertising will be carefully considered).
Data provision: Providing anonymized data to research institutions and international organizations in each country to contribute to global medical development. Compensation may also be considered in such cases.
Premium feature provision (future option): While the basic functions will be provided free of charge, the possibility of offering more advanced functions (e.g., online consultations with medical specialists, linkage with genetic testing kits) at a fee is being considered for the future, but this will be carefully considered with the utmost priority given to healthcare access for the impoverished population.
Note: Currently, the inclusion of advertising fees in the revenue model is being carefully considered due to the potential to hinder the use by the impoverished population and the need to maintain the fairness of medical information.
